I just finished up writing 50 general away missions. I think they will be great fun, especially with the complications that are sprinkled here and there. In Veilrunners, when in port the crew can try to find patrons that are offering contracts. When they find a contract that is interesting you can make it the crew’s current mission. Or you can defer it for later if you want. Missions could be: cleansing station of vermin, rescuing the daughter of CAP official from Pirates, exploring an alien ruin, destroying a Riven corvette and much, much more.
Mission Complications are things that might go wrong (or surprises that go right). Not all missions have them, but when they do it adds an element of surprise and enhances replayability. For example, you might have just completed your mission objective and are told to read complication #21. Looking it up, #21 says to make a Recon check, if the check fails you are attacked by 1 Vorax Tank Bug and 2 Winged Workers. Or you might find your self in a predicament where an enemy is holding a hostage. Do you attack and try to kill the enemy before they harm the hostage? Or do you quietly retreat? The choice is yours. The consequences are real.
Now that the General Missions are written, I’ll be working on the various faction-specific missions next. These include:
- Corporate Contracts (MegaCorps)
- Aetherion Directives (Largest MegaCorp)
- CAP Mission Docket (Goveerment)
- CAN Mission Orders (Navy)
- Pathfinder Mission Briefs (Scouts)
